Thelma Plum is back with new single 'Backseat of My Mind'

One of the brightest stars to emerge on the Australian music scene in the past few years, Gamilaraay singer-songwriter Thelma Plum today returns with her first original music since the 2019 release of her breakthrough, ARIA winning album Better In Blak, the single ‘Backseat of My Mind’.
Co-written with Alex Burnett, who Plum worked with on Better In Blak, the song begins with gentle piano before electronic beats kick in and Plum’s restrained but emotive vocals glide across the music and into your soul. Lyrically, Plum is in a reflective mood, perhaps fittingly for her return to new music: ‘As I look in the rear-view mirror / I leave it behind in the backseat of my mind’, she sings.
“I’ve spent a lot of time in vans (although not recently!) and I really wanted to write a nostalgic feeling ‘driving’ song, which I hope we nailed!” Plum says. “It’s been so fun to play live I can’t wait for people to hear the recorded version!”
To coincide with her new music, Plum is also returning to the stage with her cancelled 2020-2021 Homecoming Queen tour, now reborn as The Making It Up To You Tour across May and June. As part of VIVID Live in Sydney, Plum will also be joining Paul Kelly for a string of performances at the Opera House, she will also support Vance Joy nationally throughout October, appearing in Darwin, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart and Melbourne.
New music from Plum has been sorely missed and with more music to come in 2022, by the sound of ‘Backseat of My Mind’ she is moving into what could be the greatest era in her career yet. Tune in and bliss out now.
