Theresa Rex lets loose with a 'Scream' on her new single.
Published: 25 July 2025
Danish independent artist Theresa Rex today returns with her new single, the visceral ‘Scream.’
Written in Iceland by Rex, Icelandic writer Hákon Guðony and Finnish producer Camu Creutz, ‘Scream’ is a electronic-synth emotional ballad which Rex says was inspired by old school Nordic pop sounds.
With painfully honest lyrics, the song explores Rex’s ongoing struggles with anxiety, of not only trying to live with it, but also trying to hide it from everyone else. Delivered in a staccato rhythm, the opening line of the song sums up Rex’s feelings perfectly : ‘Well I gave up on myself and my future and faith and relations a long time ago’. She then sings of the physical - ‘I’m medicated ‘cause my body has decided to hate me’ - and emotional toll of her anxiety - ‘for the ones who tried to push me out the door / The fuck is wrong with you?’
“I have really bad anxiety, the kind that had me calling ambulances thinking I was having a heart attack,” Rex says. “For a while, I thought I was making it better by drinking my worries away, but it would always end up with me being too much, staying out too long, hurting my own feelings.”
Rex first came to prominence as the initially anonymous voice on Martin Jensen’s massive 2016 hit ‘Solo Dance’. She has since gone on to record multiple collaborations with artists such as Jonas Blue and AFROJACK, with her accumulated streams sitting at a staggering 1.5 billion.
It is however with her solo music where Rex truly shines. With an innate genius for creating the perfect pop song, her music mixes synth, electronic pop with an occasional alt edge, alongside the kind of delicious and intoxicating melodies every pop fan dreams of. Coupled with her honest and connective storytelling, it is music that you want to return to constantly.
After the release of previous single ‘Breaking Up The Band’ in April. and now ‘Scream’, 2025 is proving to be one of Rex’s strongest years to date and it has never been a better time to dive into her music.
