New Zealand born, Australian based star on the rise Venice Qin returns today with her first new music in close to a year with the intoxicating bop ‘Rodeo Star’.

A glorious mix of disco, techno, synthpop, early 2000s pop and country, the song is an ode to empowerment, fun and embracing all aspects of your sexuality: ‘Can I just climb up on your thighs? / And I’ll ride you like a rodeo star’ she sings.

Constructed almost in segments that flow seamlessly together, the song starts with a hard techno beat, before transforming into thumping, deep synths and then bringing in a twinkle of country fiddle in the chorus.

“‘Rodeo Star’ is all about the surge of energy I feel when that perfect, super cunty song comes on at a house party,” Qin says. “It’s me, moving my hips, making eyes at all the hot, sexy people around, totally caught up in the moment. This track celebrates confidence and the joy of exploring your sexuality, all wrapped up in the drop-ass Y2K vibe. It’s about letting loose, embracing the playful side of life and not being afraid to show who you really are.”

Also out today is the video for ‘Rodeo Star’. Filmed earlier this year in Denver, Colorado after Qin performed at the 41st Rocky Mountain Regional Gay Rodeo, the video showcases the gay cowboy community who mix taking part in competitions with promoting the country and western lifestyle within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Qin first broke through in 2018 with the single ‘Found Myself’, and she also gained legions of fans with her 2022 single ‘Asshole’, with both songs attracting streams in the hundreds of thousands. At the end of last year she released her debut EP Alien which featured 1980s inspired synthpop, hyper pop and experimental artpop.

With ‘Rodeo Star', Qin opens this next chapter of her music with a bang. Retaining the feel good, perfect pop vibes of Alien, she has elevated her sound and taken it in new, exciting directions. A track you will quickly become obsessed with, it is the perfect release to lead you into the weekend and cements Qin as one of the brightest, most exciting young talents in pop right now.

‘Rodeo Star’ is out now via Sony Music Australia. You can buy and stream here.
