Washington returns with new single 'Dark Parts'

Singer-songwriter Washington (aka Megan Washington) is one of Australia’s most accomplished performers. Ever since she broke through in 2010 with her ARIA award winner debut album I Believer You Liar, she has produced critically acclaimed music alongside exploring every facet of creativity that she can with her portfolio including opera, jazz, voicing cartoon characters, TV soundtracks, TED talks and acting in movies.

Today she returns with her first new music since 2018 with the quirky, left of field and totally mesmerising new single ‘Dark Parts’. A pop song that’s in ⅞ time, its insistent beat with a hint of 1980s synth pop and rapid fire vocals presents a sonic landscape of beautiful chaos which Washington presides over, pulling and pushing it into one of her greatest singles to date. Working with producers such as Sam Dixon (Sia, Adele) and Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Tones and I) Washington says ‘I’m here to have fun. Why not just record music you like with people you like?’

The accompanying lyric video, also released today, is equally unique. Fully animated, it features fantastic creatures hand drawn by Washington herself whilst daydreaming. Watch here.

‘Dark Parts’ is the first single from Washington’s third studio album which she has announced will be released on August 28th this year. Judging by the first single, it is gearing up to be one of the albums of the year.
