PREMIERE: Reb Fountain releases new single 'Nothing Like' from upcoming album 'How Love Bends'.

New Zealand singer/songwriter Reb Fountain releases her new single ‘Nothing Like’, the third taste of her upcoming album How Love Bends, on 31 January and today it premieres exclusively on Women In Pop.
The song is a gentle, gorgeous love song with lush orchestral strings interspersed with quieter, synth backed sections. Eschewing the traditional verse-chorus structure, instrumental breaks take the place of a chorus, making the song an intriguing listen that is off kilter in the best possible way.
Lyrically the song looks at new love, new beginnings and how it often takes a bad experience to make us realise how good things actually were: ‘When I get outta here, I’m gonna call you / Say what I should have said…Nothing like regret for what it’s worth.’ Fountain was inspired to write the song during the recording of How Love Bends when, in the midst of a new relationship, she took a dog walk up Mount Maungarei in Tāmaki Makaurau and discovered a feeling of hopefulness as she perceived the world in a new light.
“Meeting someone new is a high school science experiment; all colour, smoke & overflow,” Fountain says. You’re never really sure what you’re making and you’re stuck on the present, navigating the chaos of creation. A sense of playfulness and hope, exploration and curiosity comes with the stability of feeling love from the outside. Sometimes, in the grip of the whimsy we catch a glimpse of the world we wouldn’t have otherwise born witness to. There’s nothin’ like New Love to raise your head.”
‘Nothing Like’ will feature on Fountain’s new album How Love Bends, due for release on 7 March. which will also include the previous singles ‘Forever’ and ‘Come Down’. The album explores the transformative power of love in all of its fear, hope, desire, hurt and joy across 11 tracks.
"Love is an ever-evolving shapeshifter that lives in our marrow; magnetic and emergent, it is loosed by its archer to ride on the wind,” Fountain says.
A magnetic presence on the New Zealand music scene for two decades, Fountain is one of those rare artists that you can truly say is one of a kind. Her music is incredibly rich and warm with an almost preternatural ability to connect deeply with you as a listener. Drawing on multiple influences from folk and indie through to pure pop, it is indefinable in the best way possible and after just one listen will stay with you forever.
